The combined finale was held on Sunday 20th May. Maria Ellul and Daryl Azzopardi were elected as representatives for Miss & Mr World 2018. Maria was crowned by her predecessor, Michela Galea. Daryl took over the reign from Timmy Puschkin. 28 contestants vied to be the Miss World representative and 20 for the Mr World title.
It was an impressive, 24th Anniversary show, organised by Modelle International and aired at 10pm on Net TV. The contest raised a terrific 13,000 euro in aid of Dr Klown Charity, which is active in the Mater Dei Hospital. Dr Klown provides stress relief through fun and laughter to the young patients. All contestants participated in competitions, interviews, photo-shoots and other features, in the run up to the final, which were documented in the on the TV programme Gateway To Miss & Mr World.
21 year old Maria hails from Żabbar. She is a talented saxophonist who has performed with the Big Band Brothers, Malta Youth Orchestra and the Malta Police Band. Maria intends to further her studies in music, European Studies and International Relations.
Daryl is an Accounts Executive from Is-Swatar. He’s a keen sailor, likes keeping fit and listening to hip-hop and R’n’B music.
